A bit more insight into this poem for you. The poem is about a lovely German woman with whom I had a very intense six-month long relationship during a sabbatical year in Germany. In retrospect, probably the closet to a soulmate that I have known. Fate and circumstances intervened (bad timing in the lives of both of us), she had to stay in Germany for several reasons. Of course, I returned to the U.S. As the third to the last line indicates, this was in 1989.
Have you ever read a novel called ‘Where The Rainbow Ends’ by Cecilia Ahern? Your story actually sounds a bit like the plot. Although the spin in the plot is even crazier than yours, your story does remind me of that book :)
My mother used to tell me, “If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. What’s yours will always come back to you.” I’m so glad she told me that. When a relationship is not working out, I just know that it’s not meant to be instead of stressing it out :)
Thank you for sharing your story, James! Such a lovely tale :)
